ResellerRatings CEO, Scott Wainner emailed us some time ago about their program and how, if we pay* to belong to their site, we will have the rights to review and block erroneous or false customer reviews.

Keep in mind that either way, you are forced to sign up for a free or a pay account with their site. You must become a customer of their site in order to protect yourself from slanderous postings. What a SCAM!
Since that time, we have yet to "swallow the pill" of paying ResellerRatings.com to be honest and promote truthful reviews.
One of our many Yahoo stores, Cooldrives.com, currently has 1078 reviews (from 61,000 Customers) posted on Yahoo's review site, where customers are verified to be legitimate, as they need to have an order/tracking number from the store they made their purchase.
These orders are trackable within the Yahoo stores system, and therefore can be matched up with the posted Yahoo reviews in order to validate authenticity.
Within these Yahoo ratings we have a few bad reviews, but we still manage to be within the top 1% of online stores that maintains a 4.5 Star Rating.
Now if you go to ResellerRatings.com, its rating system paints a totally different picture.
ResellerRatings.com is unable or unwilling to provide a more accurate way of maintaining legitimate and/or accurate reviews without putting money into their own pockets.
Therefore, since we do not pay ResellerRatings.com any money, it seems that we have only bad reviews, portraying a one-sided picture to their visitors. The site serves as a place for people to vent their problems, rather than to serve as the comprehensive ratings system that it claims to be. What a SCAM!
No wonder their BIG advertisers profit from their partnership with ResellerRatings.com, since all of their Small Shop Owners Must send their customers back to the ResellerRatings.com site for reviews (as per ResellerRatings.com policy). What a SCAM!
Why would a company want to pay money to send their customers to a website that has banner ads for competing companies? Why would anyone pay money to send their customers elsewhere?
After years and years I finally get it, you have to pay if you want real legitimate reviews with a full spectrum of customers, otherwise your competition and only the few that really want to hurt your reputation will find this site, ResellerRatings.com, and "air all their laundry".
I think it will be more beneficial to all parties, and fair for the consumer, to see the entire picture since not everyone is 100% perfect nor 100% bad. We all make mistakes and when serving thousands and thousands of customers form many Years , these small mistakes will eventually add up.
So yes, we are not proud of the 50 or so bad reviews that we have received since 1998. We are working hard every week, as we process thousands of orders, to make less and less of these mistakes.
So yes, if someone out there thinks that one, two or three in a 1,000 orders potentially having a problem is a high number, we suggest you shop elsewhere as we are human and we will make mistakes.
~~ Here is a thought for a legitimate rating site. How about making a website that allows customers to submit their reviews without getting bombarded with other store advertisements, and have a look and feel of the store that they shopped at?
What a concept! Scott Wainner may have to take a pay cut but hey, this is the internet after all and we all need to make changes.
So please remove all of our sites from your SCAM index and do not spider Google adds to solicit and build your database as this is also click fraud!

Body: The product did work to the basic specifications that I needed. However, the design of the product itself needs some work. The power cord and drive interface had to be positioned in such away that the drive doesnt disconnect. Basically, I had to prop the power cord slightly above the drive interface, while the interface with the connected drive was flat on a table.
Otherwise, the product lloaded fast, worked right away, and I was able to retrieve my data just like any other drive/external drive device. Again, according to the description of specifiation on the merchants website.

I did check the shipping options and from FL to CA is far enough I guess. I had to send the ground since other shipping option were more than the actual price of the product. Body: I found that they have different sites for the same store, but they list different prices. For the simple power adapter I purchased it seemed pretty costly.
The shipping was extremely high as well.
What I liked about this site was that it offered a product that I couldnt find on anyone elses site, and their customer service seemed helpful.

Body: The USB hard drive enclosure I ordered was as described on COOLDRIVES write up.
After I placed my order I received a conformation email from them within 15 mins and received my shipping tracking number within an hour of placing the order.

Body: After upgrading my Macbook with a bigger HD I had an 80gb SATA left over. This case was perfect for making it into an external drive. The combination power/USB cable comes in handy. Body: I bought an external SATA drive enclosure. The enclosure had a eSATA port. So I bought an eSATA cable and card for the laptop. Although the card was installed well the drive wasnt recognized. I dont know where the problem lies. But other than that the drive seems to work well with the USB and Firewire cables.
So I am pretty much satisfied with CoolDrives and a little mystified over the above mentioned problem.

Body: The enclosure works well but is not well designed from a noise standpoint. A MacMini computer, for example, which generates far more heat, is very quiet. This unit makes far more noise which is caused by the fan and the air flow thru the unit. Body: Cooldrives delivered exactly what they said they were
going to and it works just like it is supposed to so
I am pleased.
After sales customer service seems rather limited so
it is very important that you make sure that you know
what something is, and what it will do, before you buy.
My impression is that Cooldrives expects its customers
to be self sufficient and have good hardware skills.
In my situation I bought the dual-SATA drive Metallica
cabinet. It looks exactly like on the Cooldrives Web site
and works fine.
The only peculiarity observed is that my cabinet came in
the box thats for the cabinet with dual-USB connections
(not eSATA which is what I bought and received). In the
box, with the eSATA connectorized cabinet (what I wanted
and got) was a little piece of paper that showed how the
dual-USB PCB was to be connected to the different cables
within the housing. The dual-eSATA PCB (inside the cabinet
I got) already had cables attached and so I didnt have to
have a picture that showed how it was to be hooked-up but
I thought that it would be nice to have the right drawing
(instead of the dual-USB PCB).
When I asked Cooldrives about either a copy of the right
drawing, or a link to one, they responded that they didnt
have them. Then later, in one of the many screens on the
Cooldrives Web Page, I found the drawing I wanted (it was
poorly scanned and is a bit blurry but its useable).
When I examined the box that my dual eSATA connectorized
housing came in I could not find any sign of the
manufacturer; no name, no address, nothing.
I would be hesitant to buy a cabinet from Cooldrives that
has active electronics because if they went bad I would
not be confident that Cooldrives would feel motivated to
get it fixed. With the dual eSATA connectorized cabinet
(what I got) there are no active electronics, only back-
to-back connectors (SATA connectors within the cabinet
and eSATA connectors externally).

Suggestions for improvement:
Make the tech support link easier to find on the website.
Re-check the tone of tech support responses to ensure they are interpreted as professional and polite (Sometimes its hard to tell in print).
Extend credit card options to include Discover.
Revise the return / exchange policy on USB drive shells - it is difficult to get a feel for size and quality of construction from a photo on the internet. Most internet sellers have a fairly liberal return policy for this reason.

Body: Although this adaptor is advertised only as allowing you to connect a SATA drive to a USB port, it also includes a second built-in connecter for an IDE drive as well... so you can connect either/or (but only one drive at a time!). In effect this adaptor converts an loose hard drive intended to be used as an internal drive into an external one that is easily connected and disconnected just like a memory stick. The product is well made, functions as advertised, and the instructions are understandable. Driver software is included, but you wont need this unless you have an earlier version of Windows operating system. One note of caution: if you leave the hard drive connected for a long period of time, keep in mind that it spins continuously and will get increasingly hot over time with no enclosure and cooling fan to reduce the temperature as it operates. So if you will be doing that often you are probably better off using an external hard drive, or buying an enclosure for your loose internal drive than using this adaptor.

Body: The only problem that I had of this Item that I got. Was the shipping of the product... I use UPS and FedEX most of the time. But this time UPS. Failed in its promise. Most of the time I get my package shipped with in the 3 to 5 days for ground items. I had this ordered Sun.. They got Item to UPS by Monday afternoon.. It took UPS from Mon afternoon to the next Tuesday noon to eve to get my package delivered. I was tracking Item all the way and It was as they TAPED it to a turtle.. Couldnt seem to activate the menu to change the drive configuration from RAID 1 to RAID 0, but that was more of a test than anything as I had planned on using it in RAID 1 anyways. Has been working fine over USB2 hooked up to a Mac Mini for a couple of weeks now with two 500GB SATA 300 drives. Emailed customer service, got a response back pretty quick, within a few hours. You have to jump through hoops and use their system for tech support, but if you do then its ok. Best/only price I could find for this product -- they seem to be the only game in town if this is what you are looking for.

Body: It is nearly impossible to find an empty enclosure that takes a SATA drive AND has FW800 on the rear of the case. On top of this, the enclosure has eSATA and USB external connections! All this plus cables for $120! As a composer with dozens of drives and a slew of computers, the ability to move a project to different computers on or off premises without worrying about connections is like a dream come true! And CoolDrives provided an excellent shopping experience! After realizing that CoolDrives has the market cornered on many products, I emailed them a pre-sales question. They answered the next day. Also, I appreciate how their website has an enormous amount of technical information. For serious computer users, corporations and designers, the CoolDrives website is a wealth of information. A short period after completing the order, I received all of the confirmation emails. A day later, the tracking information. The drive arrived one day late ONLY because of UPS having difficulties. The drive enclosure is well made, simple to install and worked instantly with my G5 Dual 2.7 and MacBook Pro 17. Before ordering I did read the negative reviews. My wife and I look at it this way. This company makes money by selling online, not running a local retail establishment. The time it takes to hold a customers hand only takes away from their bottom line. And that is why CoolDrives website is packed with so much information. Even on their website, it explains this. And no, a 15% restocking fee is not unusual. How would you like to find out you paid full price for an item previously owned by another customer. They obviously cant sell it as new! Also, what is wrong with taking holidays off? There are very few corporations left that do this, but the ones that do have a very loyal staff. All of this is on their website as far as I can tell. And just be patient for the emails. When their website stated the product was behind schedule, I placed the order anyway. I will definately be ordering again and letting others know about their products. If you are the kind of shopper who needs to talk to sales persons, require installation help and feel uncomfortable dealing with brand new and emerging technologies, then Best Buy is probably a better place to shop for your particular needs. But for those users/IT personnel who require very specific (and hard to find) technologies, CoolDrives is the place to be!

Body: Great selection of items. I only had two issues. One was that their web site was unavailable at times, but this was probably outside of their control and more likely due to Yahoo! The second issue was the quality of the external SATA enclosure that I bought. Overall, the workmanship was good, but the holes for the drive screws were too small. A lot of times I think its expected that the screws will thread the hole as theyre screwed in, but the fit was so tight and the screws too soft that removing the screws (when the hard drive was not in place) required a lot of force with pliers. I dont know if this was a manufacturing defect, but I didnt see any possible way that screws could be removed once the hard drive was in place, at least not with tools that an ordinary person would have. The solution is simple enough, just drill out the holes. I dont have a drill so this was a problem. I was able to make one hole work and only used one screw to attach the drive instead of all six screws. If I need another enclosure, I would probably order from them again, but I ask that the holes be enlarged. Otherwise, it would be extemely difficult to remove a drive once its all together.

Body: Items purchased: USB to (IDE/SATA) adapter kits. Allows one to grab any old internal hard drive, power it externally, and attach it to the USB port like a flash drive.
Overall, a GOOD online merchant to purchase stuff from.
Gripes:
1) Prices are on the high side (in retrospect) - depending on how well you did your research. USB to SATA adapters without external power bricks cost as little as $5 brand new (but these examples look... disposable?). But the thing is, they all use the same chipsets anyway.
2) The time-to-ship seems abit long (due to in-house testing?), and the order status can only be tracked once the courier sends an e-mail. Cooldrives order status page isnt very helpful.
3) Not really a gripe, and this may be an isolated incident - one of my items (two of them, really, since I bought two of each) wasnt as was pictured on the website. HOWEVER, they did substitute my IDE adapter with a BETTER model (I convey my genuine thanks - that was unexpected). This may be an issue for the Shallow Hals who want that one, in that color.
Praise:
1) Items work as indicated (but may not be as cosmetically appealing), no frills. Items on the site cater more to us geeks and techies, for that Id give five stars. Make sure you know your software first. I initially thought the adapters didnt work - issue: when starting with brand-new, unformatted drives, Windows XP needs to initialize them first using the Disk Manager. Didnt run through this procedure when I was using Windows 2000 (?!).
2) Unbeatable diversity of choice when it comes to peripherals of this type.
3) Very accommodating to inquiries re: order status on the phone. Was initially unable to purchase items with credit card (FOREIGN MasterCard), had to borrow someone elses.
Will buy from them again? Yes, only if the items desperately needed (they have EVERYTHING!)/not considerably more expensive than other online stores.

Body: Great Drive Case. Instructions are a bit dry and not real straightforward so someone who is not too technical may have to call for help. Drive is extremely cool and love the USB2, Firewire, or SATA connection options. Now I can connect my new seagate 300 GB SATA drive to any of my desktops or Laptops for backup! Connecting the drive to the case was relatively easy! Price was fair, but hard to find cases with all 3 transfer options for less. Give it a few months! Shipping was fast. Customer service responded quickly!
One thing that could be improved is the power connection to the drive case. The connection is not real snug, but this is only a minor negative.
